'Iron': Woodkid's first ever so powerful and elegant EP

6.18.13

To some this might be a completely new name, and to some it could be a name they recognize but the majority of music listeners have yet to discover the amazing new project by Yoann Lemoine called Woodkid. Who is Yoann Lemoine? Yoann is a french music video director well known for the direction of many celebrity musicians such as Katy Perry, Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, and Mystery Jets. He has also won many prestigious nominations and awards for these videos and his AIDS awareness campaign. Is it a real surprise that a man like this decided to start a music career?

Woodkid's EP 'Iron' released March 28th 2011 and caught the attention of a lot of listeners worldwide. His music is far more elegant than most with it's heavy use of strings and brass instruments that hits right from the start. It also combines afro-percussion which sounds very tribal, which in a way contrasts with the elegance of the strings and brass. These elements do not clash but work together to create a sound that feels powerful and super-human. Yoann's vocals are also quite different. You can really hear his strong french accent in his vocals, while his voice is soft, yawn-like and harmonic giving the powerful instrumentals a soft landing. All these pieces together make for a unique track that leaves you feeling like supreme ruler.

After this brief description it's time for you to check it out yourself. Here is 'Iron' by Woodkid. Leave comments if you so desire.
